Holroyd Council has received 33 enquiries from parties interested in seeing the iconic building reactivated.
"It's high time we found a new tenant for this iconic site at the gateway to the Merrylands Town Centre," Holroyd Mayor Ross Grove said.
“Moving a tenant into the building will not only create a new attraction for visitors, it will create a new income stream to ensure we're not dependent on ratepayers for all our revenue in the future.
"We're receiving enquiries for restaurants, childcare, function centres and cafes and I'm looking forward to the close of submissions so we can move someone in as soon as possible.
"The newly elected Council took swift and decisive action to get the ball rolling in October, after a Mayoral Minute was carried directing work to begin five months ahead of schedule.
"It is a testament to what a disciplined and focused elected council can achieve when they apply their efforts to reactivating latent public assets.
“It is clear from the number of enquiries we have that our pro-investment, pro-Holroyd policy agenda is working and I look forward to seeing that continue into the future.”
Under Council's Draft 2012 Local Environment Plan (LEP), the site could be home of any number of new enterprises such as the entities we're getting and indoor sporting complexes and office premises.
Merrylands Place is located on the corner of Pitt and Walpole Streets in Merrylands. It sits at the height of the scenic and spacious Holroyd Gardens reserve with strong visibility from nearby streets and residential apartments.
