Hills Mayor, Dr Michelle Byrne said the local sporting association presented a strong offer.
“The Hills Basketball Association has a proven track record and excellent experience in managing similar sporting facilities here in The Hills, including the Dural Recreation Centre and the Hills Basketball Stadium at Fred Caterson Reserve,” Mayor Byrne said.
“They've also proposed a number of upgrades at the Complex, including an expansion to the number of courts from the existing two to four, as well as transforming the current cafe into a commercial kitchen. Plus, they plan to build a learn-to-swim pool, which is exciting for Kellyville residents.
"Basketball is a growing sport in The Hills and I'm so happy to see our local Association growing. I'm also happy that our existing users of this wonderful facility will continue to be accommodated.
"This is a fantastic complex and I'm sure residents will be excited to see this venue grow into a more vibrant and multifaceted venue in the future," Mayor Byrne added.
As part of the Association's EOI, they have proposed to complete upgrades at the Complex during two stages.
In Stage One, they’ve proposed to carry out the following improvements in the first five years:
• Painting, equipment and security cameras;
• Upgrades to the backboard glass and new timber floorboards on both existing courts;
• Netball courts bitumen re-sealing, new line markings and lighting enhancements;
• Café fit-out and equipment with connection to the outdoor area.
Following the initial five years and construction approvals being authorised, the Association plans to carry out the following upgrades during Stage Two:
• Upgrading the café kitchen to industrial/commercial standard;
• Increasing the facility from two courts to four courts, plus storage; and
• Construction of a learn-to-swim pool.
The resolution from the September 22 Ordinary Meeting of Council will be placed on public exhibition for 28 days.
