The low rise town centre is designed to look like a real country town and it will be accompanied by extensive parklands, sports fields and wide cycling and walkways.
This will encourage residents to get out into the great outdoors and enjoy life in the new golden west.
Surrounding the town centre will be 4500 new homes which mean West Schofield’s population will boom to well over 15,000 people
The town centre will underpin the growth of the “pop up” suburb turning it into a strong and resilient community during the next 20 years according to Minister for Planning and Housing Anthony Roberts.
“The new Town Centre will include cafes, shops and services and will become a meeting place for new and existing residents,” Mr Roberts said.
“The West Schofields Masterplan, which will soon go on exhibition, will guide development of the community.
“The 4500 dwellings will be made up of 3850 ‘typical homes’ and 490 higher density homes including villas, townhouses and apartments above the shopping centre, with the remainder as either existing or large lot homes.
“Residents will be able to enjoy more than 90ha of open space including 12 double playing fields and several new local parks under the new plan.
“We are also catering for and encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle for residents with the inclusion of new footpaths and cycleways to be built alongside new homes”.
Mr Roberts said this was a good example of the Government ensuring vital infrastructure was built prior to people moving into the area.
Member for Riverstone Kevin Conolly in praising the planned development said access to and from the area would be improved with the widening and upgrade of Garfield Rd and Schofields Rd as well as a proposal to extend Townson Rd and Burdekin Rd.
“In addition to nearby Riverstone and Schofields stations, residents will be better connected with access to the new Sydney Metro Northwest at Tallawong Station, only a short distance away,” he said.
