WESTERN SYDNEY PUBS PARTER WITH TIACS

Raising mental health awareness for blue collar workers
IN a powerful show of community spirit and support, 12 pubs across Greater Western Sydney are coming together on Friday, September 20 for National Tradies Day.

Thye collective is to honour the hard work of Australia’s tradesmen and women and to raise vital funds and awareness for mental health support within the industry.

According to industry research, tradies in Australia are significantly more likely to die by suicide than from workplace accidents, highlighting the importance of addressing mental health within the building and construction industry.

On this National Tradies Day, venues from Ashfield, Belmore, Casula, Guildford to Rouse Hill will host a community BBQ sausage sizzle from 10am to 6pm, with all proceeds going to TIACS (This Is A Conversation Starter) – a free text and call counselling service providing professional and confidential mental health support to Australia’s blue-collar workers, including tradies, truckies, farmers, and other labourers.

Western Sydney locals and the broader community are invited to join the initiative and show their support for tradies by participating in the gold-coin-donation sausage sizzle at any of the 12 participating pubs (see loist below).

“This community-driven initiative is about more than just a day of fun and food; it's about fostering conversations that can save lives. We know that mental health is a critical issue in the blue-collar community, especially among our tradies,” said Jason Banks Co-CEO, TIACS.

“By partnering with these venues to bring awareness to National Tradies Day, we hope to raise awareness and funds and start conversations that encourage our local community to check in on each other.”

Brandon Kerr, Guildford Hotel Licensee, said: “A lot of our customers are blue-collar workers and anything we can do to support them, we’re all for. There is nothing more important than mental health and the work the team at TIACS do is so admirable and when this idea was presented to us we jumped at the opportunity to get behind it.

"We believe that coming together as a community to support our tradies is crucial, and this National TradiesDay is a perfect way to show our appreciation and make a positive impact. We encourage everyone to come down, enjoy a sausage sizzle, go in the running to win some fantastic prizes, and help us support this vital cause.”
