Entrepreneurs Nitin Madan and Bikram Singh Cheema worked with Council to deliver a festival that showcased multicultural food and entertainment.
The program had food and entertainment through the day with Indian folk dances, live music and Bollywood performances on the stage setup towards one end of the street.
The rest of the street was packed with 50 stalls on either side of Main Street that offered different flavours of curries from Indian to Sri Lankan delights in the form of tummy ticklers. The end of the street had fun rides for kids.
For those who wanted to buy traditional Indian attire, there were lots on offer to ensure you’re appropriately dressed for that Bollywood theme party!
Apart from traditional clothes there was Indian costume jewellery and Indian natural henna available along with face painting.
Crowds started picking up at 10am and Main Street never looked busier with people from all communities getting together to enjoy this extravaganza of food and entertainment.
Children from different dance schools around the Hills District and Western Sydney ensured that there wasn’t a dull moment.
The official function was held at 2pm with Castle Hill MP Ray Williams and Hills Shire Mayor Andrew Jefferies addressing a packed Main Street which had an attendance in excess of 15,000 people through the day.
The chief guests acknowledged the organisers and sponsors, particularly their platinum sponsor Maharaja Haveli Indian Restaurant from Quakers Hill for their support.
It was wonderful to see the true spirit of Multicultural Australia as people came together to enjoy the fun, food and entertainment.
The organisers showcased India through its culture, clothes, jewellery and flavours.
