World's largest short film festival makes Parramatta debut

THE stars will come out when Parramatta welcomes the world’s largest and most iconic short film festival to the City for the first time this week.

Tropfest partners are gearing up for its Parramatta premiere this Saturday, February 11 with an exciting line up of events.

TropTalks, a national chat series for filmmakers and film buffs, will kick off the five-day Tropfest celebration in Parramatta on Tuesday, February 7, courtesy of program partner Western Sydney University.

Featuring some of Tropfest’s best-known talent, alumni and industry experts, the program provides an exciting opportunity to engage with like-minded film makers to discuss and debate key topics that impact the industry.

“With thousands of people expected to come to Parramatta for the event, Council’s new partnership with Tropfest and the Parramatta Park Trust is a demonstration of our City’s growing status as a thriving creative and cultural hub,” City of Parramatta Administrator Amanda Chadwick said.

Council’s Destination Ambassadors and Hosts and Guides will be on hand to welcome event goers to the City and the new festival location.

“As a proud destination partner of Tropfest we look forward to seeing this important arts festival grow and attract new audiences to Parramatta over the next three years,” Ms Chadwick said.

Screening on a Saturday for the first time and free to attend, Tropfest will be held in the World Heritage listed Parramatta Park on February 11. TropJr will kick-start the festival
from 12pm along with live music and entertainment. Tropfest’s official program and finalists screening starts from 7.30pm.

Tropfest CEO Ben Bartlett said he was excited to have City of Parramatta and Parramatta Park Trust as destination partners for 2017 and beyond.

“Parramatta is the ‘geographical heart’ of Sydney. We’re excited to share Tropfest with tens of thousands of people this Saturday at our new home,” Mr Bartlett said.

Rose Byrne will head the Tropfest 2017 judging panel joined by internationally acclaimed actor Sam Neill and a number of renowned Australian’s including Oscar-winning director George Miller, Hollywood producer Bruna Papandrea, and writer/director Rachel Perkins.
