Reflections of WSABE's longest standing sponsor

By Angelo Risso

IT’S clear the Western Sydney Awards for Business Excellence mean a lot to Ron Ross.

The owner of Snap Print Design and Websites at Parramatta has sponsored the event since 2002, offering a variety of print and design services free of charge to help promote and sustain the event.

Speaking to Western Sydney Business Access about his longstanding commitment to the awards, which honour outstanding businesses in the West Sydney area, Ross says his devotion is a reflection of his deep-seated belief that Western Sydney can make a difference.

“I’ve become very passionate about Parramatta and about Western Sydney in general, and I believe we have enormous ability here in the region,” said Ross.

“I think it’s a great thing that we do and I’m more than happy to remain behind them in terms of the printing and design, it’s a very good cause.”

Originally signing on in 2002 to help lift the profile of Snap Print, Ross says his continued sponsorship has morphed into something more philanthropic over the years.

“People know that if they come to ‘Snap’ they will get the quality design and print that they see at the awards,” he said.

“These sorts of things are all about keeping yourself in front of potential clients and existing clients, reminding them you’re here.

“But that’s apart from the fact that it’s something I think I would be doing anyway, and a way of giving back to the Western Sydney business community in general.”

Over recent years Ross has sponsored the award for Excellence in Manufacturing, hoping to encourage the idea that Western Sydney must lead the way in halting the manufacturing exodus currently taking place in Australia.

“Manufacturing in Australia is something we really need to be looking at closely as a nation, and certainly as a region in Western Sydney,” he said.

“If we don’t do something soon we’ll be an importer of just about everything and I don’t believe that’s good for the country’s economy.”

This year however Ross will be sponsoring the Excellence in Business Ethics award, granted to a business “that has been able to achieve business success while acting in an ethically responsible way.”

Ross says he is a firm advocate for ethical business dealings and corporate responsibility.

“I’ve always been passionate about doing things in an ethical manner – that can be anything from honouring a quotation you may have given somebody, to paying your bills on time, to looking after your staff,” he said.

“To put it simply, ethics is really just dealing with people the way that you feel you should be dealt with yourself.”

The 2014 Western Sydney Awards for Business Excellence Gala Night is on August 22 at 6pm.
