Davies ready to win again at Oatlands

ENGLAND’S Laura Davies is ready to get 2014 off to a perfect start with a win in the Bing Lee Fujitsu Women’s NSW Open.

Davies has confirmed that she will return to Oatlands Golf Club in Sydney for the NSW Open being played from January 24 to 26.

Her goals for 2014 are straightforward: “To win, win and win again,” she said recently from home.

The Englishwoman, who is a crowd favourite wherever she plays around the world, will be looking to capture her second NSW Open, having won the event the first time she played in it in 2008.

She will be making her sixth straight appearance and why does the winner of more than 80 titles around the world keep returning to the event?

“I like the course and more importantly the people at the club always make me fell so welcome. The event is a bit more relaxed than some other events but it always has a strong field so a great one to win.”

When asked about the keys to success at Oatlands, the English legend said: “To do well at Oatlands you need to drive the ball well and of course hole your fair share of putts”.

In further news regarding the tournament, Fujitsu General (Aust) Pty Limited has come on board as the co-title sponsor of the Women’s NSW Open.

Philip Perham, Deputy Managing Director expressed the company’s excitement about being part of women’s professional golf for the first time.

“We’re excited to be joining with Bing Lee, a long and valued partner of Fujitsu, in support women’s golf here in NSW. Air conditioning and summer go hand in glove and from this perspective the timing of this event couldn’t be better for our company”.

“Fujitsu General has a long history of charitable and sporting sponsorships in Australia, but importantly this sponsorship is our first direct involvement with women’s sport.”

“We’re excited to be onboard and with the opportunities this association presents our brand.”

In other news, Golf NSW is pleased to announce that France’s top female golfer, Gwladys Nocera, is a confirmed starter in the 2014 Bing Lee Fujitsu Women’s NSW Open.

Nocera, who thoroughly enjoys coming to Australia, would love nothing less than to be lifting the trophy come Sunday, January 26, at an event she had a number of top 10 finishes in.

“I never won at Oatlands and do like the course very much. The Australian Tour is doing a lot for women’s golf and I'll be very proud to win there!” said Nocera

Nocera, is coming off one of her best seasons on the Ladies European Tour (LET) for several years.

The affable Frenchwoman won twice on the LET in 2013, the Slovak Ladies Open and the China Suzhou Taihu Open. Those wins took Nocera’s total number of LET titles to 12.

The 38-year-old made the cut in all 21 events that she teed it up in and posted six top 10 including her two wins. She finished fourth on the ISPS Handa Order of Merit with Euro 221,687.

She attributed her success to working with Australian coach Ian Triggs.

“I have been working had with Ian Triggs for two years and it helped me so much getting more consistent in my game and getting my confidence back,” she said.

Nocera mentioned there are many keys to playing well at Oatlands Golf Course in Sydney, however she selected driving the ball well and being smart around the greens as the top ones.
