Why does NBN bypass industrial estate?

By Narelle Stoker

THE fact that the business district encompassing Smithfield, Wetherill Park, Guildford and Girraween will not be receiving the Federal Government's National Broadband Network for at least seven years is one of the area's best kept secrets.

Cumberland Business Chamber (CBC) is in the process of making business owners aware of this and is staging an awareness event on October 9 at the Chifley Eastern Creek Hotel.

Members and non-members are invited to attend this event to hear from NBN Co. and representatives from Telstra.

This business zone is the largest industrial estate in the Southern Hemisphere and yet the Government has not made any consideration for assisting businesses which employ thousands of people and inject millions of dollars in to the local economy.

The Chamber has been advised that the Government's decision also means the local South West Sydney Institute of TAFE will miss out on high speed broadband.

To learn more about the NBN Roll Out attend the event which starts at 6.00pm

CBC’s new look team

Cumberland Business Chamber, which is celebrating its 25th year of representing the local business community, has announced a new look committee to lead it over the next 12 months.

Following the recent Annual General Meeting at St Johns Park Bowling Club the Senior Executive positions were confirmed with Craig Hingston entering his second term as President, Peter Simonis continuing as one Vice President and Joe Viglione becoming the second Vice President after having served on the committee for many years.Victor Prasad remains as Treasurer.

The role of Past President continues to be filled by Renzo Valleri who is a founding member of the Chamber.

The Executive Committee is made up of Kevin McCaffrey and Brian Mulvey, carried over from the previous year, and several new faces: Maria Silvestri, David Bullard, Noah Moseley, John Madineo and Jose Respall. The Chamber's General Manager/Secretary, remains as Narelle Stoker, based at the Smithfield office.

The President announced a strategy to continue expanding the Chamber and support more members of the business community.

I added that plans are well underway on seeking support for a unique business and economic stimulus proposal for businesses in Greater Western Sydney which has received enthusiastic interest from Federal Member for McMahon, Chris Bowen MP.
