This was the first time festivities have been expanded to include the Parade Ground, which featured an array of entertainment, kids’ activities and a spectacular water and laser display as part of the New Year’s Eve finale.
Parramatta Lord Mayor, Councillor John Chedid, said the event was once again a great success.
“It was a spectacular end to 2013 and the biggest New Year’s celebrations ever held in Parramatta,” Cr Chedid said.
“The new Family Zone was a huge hit and allowed thousands more people to enjoy the entertainment, which included children’s band Lah Lah and the Sweet Jelly Rolls, the Slippery Gypseas as well as a variety of roving performers,” Cr Chedid said.
“The highlight of the night was the spectacular laser and water display and the action packed jet-ski performance on the river, which accompanied the 9pm fireworks.
“The success of Parramatta’s NYE celebrations and record turnout shows there is a growing appetite for a localised New Year’s Eve event. Parramatta’s celebrations were perfect for those who wanted an enjoyable night, closer to home, without the hassle of travelling into Sydney,” Cr Chedid said.
