Rugby league great Hazem El Masri, Paralympian John Maclean, actress Noeline Brown and former NSW Premier John Fahey will be among those honoured at the
Celebrate the West event recognising their achievements as Champions of the West.
San Miguel Family Centre Manager Jennifer Wood says the event is an opportunity to recognise the success of local heroes.
“Celebrate the West gives our champions a chance to share their stories and inspire others to strive for excellence,” she said.
“It is also a great opportunity to help families who are doing it tough, with the proceeds of the event going to the San Miguel Family Centre.
Event Patron and Master of Ceremonies Bryan Brown has been a supporter of San Miguel since growing up in the West himself.
“It is a much bigger Western Suburbs now, but I know the same values exist there as when I grew up. We care about each other. When we stop doing that, we’re dead. San Miguel lies at the heart of the Western Suburbs and I care about San Miguel,” Mr Brown said.
For 33 years San Miguel Family Centre, a service of BoysTown, has been providing short term accommodation to families who are in crisis and experiencing homelessness.
San Miguel’s caring staff provides more than temporary, emergency accommodation, they offer support, counselling and guidance to help families tackle the issues creating homelessness.
Parents receive support to improve life skills such as budgeting, cooking and communication and children receive support from child development workers to enter the local schools and return to education.
Celebrate the West will take place on Friday, 4 April from 12 midday to 5 pm at the WatervieW in Bicentennial Park, Sydney Olympic Park. Tickets are available from BoysTown by calling 02 4579 6622 or emailing sanmiguel@boystown.com.au.
