The event, which will take place at the Sydney International Regatta Centre on Sunday November 30, is also expected to attract hundreds of visitors to the City and inject more than $500,000 to the local economy.
Penrith Mayor Ross Fowler OAM said the IRONMAN event will shine a spotlight on Penrith as a leader in world-class sporting events and popular visitor destination.
“Penrith is the place to have an adventure, push your limits and seek an adrenaline rush – so it’s no surprise IRONMAN has found its way here and it further cements our status as the Adventure Capital,” Cr Fowler said.
“We look forward to welcoming the competitors and visitors to the City. Hopefully they will get some down-time after the race to take in the sights, features and attractions we have to offer in Penrith.”
The majority of the race will take place in and directly around the Sydney International Regatta Centre. Castlereagh Rd and Devlin Rd will also be used for the bike course.
Both roads will be closed for the duration of the race. Residents are encouraged to visit the IRONMAN website for further details.
Registrations are still open for the IRONKIDS event on Saturday, November 29. This mini- event has been created to encourage kids aged 7-13 years to get involved in sport and develop an interest in triathlons.
